Natural landscape and history combined

About this category

In cooperation with the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry (AELF) Weilheim and the AELF Landau a. d. Isar-Pfarrkirchen, forest walks emerge on topics such as forest transformation, climate protection, and regional landscape stewardship. The tours are audio guides — usable on site, but also without an internet connection.

Projects and focus areas

Forest tour on forest transformation

The audio guide explains the modern approach to woodland to forest owners and anyone interested — the climate-adapted transformation of the forest. Why are there skid trails? Why do woodland areas look so different from one another?

The tour leads through model stands in the Schwabniederhofen forest cooperative — vigorous spruce sites where forest transformation becomes visible by example. Recorded on site by forester Sonja Scheurer and forester Ludwig Rabl of the AELF Weilheim, complemented by the voices of the forest owners themselves.

The tour can also be used without an internet connection — making it suitable for listening before and after a visit. It is part of the Bavaria-wide Initiative Zukunftswald and covers the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Weilheim-Schongau and Starnberg.

The press launch for the forest tour took place on 3 December 2024 — a guided walk on site with representatives from the district administration, the municipalities, the forestry office, forest owners, foresters, further contributors, and the press.

Ilztal Audio Guide

Six stations lead through the nature reserve in the Ilz valley and explain what there is to discover to the left and right of the railway line — a journey on the Ilztalbahn, accompanied by the audio guide.

This tour, too, can be used without an internet connection and is suitable for listening before and after a visit.

The official launch took place on 21 May 2026 with a special run of the Ilztal Railway — together with representatives from the State Ministry, the districts, the municipalities, the forestry offices, the Ilztal Railway Association, further contributors, and the press.
